Glad to hear it Patrick! I hope that in the end, you can afford for energy saving bulbs. It sounds like you have taken all the options into consideration. Good luck on the renovation, and I hope it all goes smoothly.

Excellent post- Thank you. As Board Secretary of The Friends of The Historic Variety Theatre (FOTHVT), I can tell you that we will work VERY hard to re-light the Marquee with LED technology. In the end we may only get a donation to cover the cost of incandescent and then use LED (and have to raise the additional funds to make LED happen). As part of our ongoing discussion, I myself have pointed out that it isn't prudent to re-light with old technology and then have to go back and retrofit (even though the new marquee is set up to use whatever technology we decide upon). Ongoing discussions-as a Board-we realize that once we get the marquee up and re-lit ultimately, we do have to pay the electric bill. In the end a little more money at the outset will save us a lot of money down the road. As part of our entire renovation, we will be utilizing green technology wherever possible (and green technology is tied to our funding).
As of June 10, 2009 The FOTHVT are now in possesion of the Theatre block (Theatre building/storefronts and apartments). We have set a tentative date of Saturday, September 12, 2009 for our re-lighting ceremony. Please continue to support our endeavor (shameless plug-buy a bulb at www.varietytheatrecleveland.com). Thank you-and see you at The Variety!

I’ve been replacing my old bulbs (incandescent and CFL) with LEDs to be Green and save money. I’ve had a very good experience with Eaglelight.com. Good selection, excellent customer service, fast delivery. I just want to share them with the rest of you. Buy LEDs and Go Green!
