While I agree with most of this I must say the responsibility is with the adults in the situation. If the kids are too old, tell them no. Don't hand out candy, or don't hand things out at all. I went rounds with my neighbors about this who complain about it all the time but personally do nothing about it. They still hand out candy, they still let their kids eat all the candy they get, etc... A reinventing has to start somewhere.

I personally don't get involved in Halloween, I have no kids and have stopped handing things out. This year we had organizations going out trick or treating for charities which I thought was a neat idea. They trick or treated for canned foods for the local food banks, for coats and blankets for needy kids, etc... That's something I could get behind, but it takes a group of people to really get the word out and start the movement.

I agree that bags full of candy is the last thing our country needs.
