Studies say that amounts to between 30 and 40 percent of all the food produced in this country." It's a bit shocking, but I'm not surprised. We live on a tight budget as well, and while I wish I could support locally grown produce all the time we simply can't afford it. I've been making a monthly menu which has helped keep us from throwing out unused food and overbuying at the grocery store. Sometimes I'll also freeze leftovers if I know it won't get eaten up within the week.
