My new goal in life is to see how long I can make something last. To that end, I am trying to figure out how to repair my washing machine myself. While this is not what I would call a fun project, it is worthwhile to repair and continue to use things rather than tossing things out. This is a little old fashioned concept, but then much of what I do in life is a matter of going back while moving forward.
Here is some stuff from around the web that might inspire you to think about repairing and reusing rather than tossing out:

Robert, this is so funny. We have a microwave that is almost as old as my husband. It’s huge and ugly and wildly unfashionable, but the fact that is has lasted this long is so impressive that we’re loathe to throw it away. So on it goes…
By the way, did you know that 1950s fridges are about four times more energy-efficient than newer ones? The defrost cycle is a huge energy hog.
I am not surprised by the fridge, but I have spent many a hour chipping ice off the freezer compartment-a task I am happy to avoid in the future!
